Scarsdale Diet

The Scarsdale Diet is a highly regimented diet created in the 1970s by Dr Herman Tarnower in Scarsdale New York. Who unfortunately was shot by a jilted lover.

The Scarsdale Medical Diet promises fast weight loss by following a strict reduced-calorie menu exactly, for two weeks. Then you switch to the Scarsdale Keep Trim Eating Plan.

The Scarsdale Keep Trim Eating Plan allows extras such as one alcoholic drink, but still restricts carbohydrates, potatoes, rice, pasta, sugar, oil and normal milk. If you need additional weight loss, you go back on the Scarsdale Medical Diet again for two weeks. Then back to the Keep Trim Plan. And so on.

The Scarsdale diet is low-carb, moderate-fat, allowing lots of fruit, vegetables and lean protein. No alcohol, butter or oil are allowed. You can snack on carrots and celery. Drink at least 4 glasses of water or diet soda per day.

Many people would be familiar with the menu plan of the Scarsdale Medical Diet, with breakfast being half a grapefruit, a slice of protein bread and coffee or tea. Lunch and dinner are generally lean meat and salad or vegetables.

This is not generally considered a long-term eating plan, and may not provide sufficient fibre and nutrition for your body.
